Internationally aspiring Norwegian violinist and renowned Swedish classical music label to release four (SA)CDs until 2020
September 21st, 2017 – Norwegian violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing has officially signed a record agreement with the globally-renowned high-end classical music label BIS Records AB from Sweden.
BIS Records will release four discs with Eldbjørg Hemsing in SACD format (Super Audio Compact Disc). The first BIS disc, Eldbjørg Hemsing’s recording debut, features Dvořák’s Violin Concerto and Suk’s Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra as well as an arrangement of Suk’s Love Song. Eldbjørg is partnered by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Alan Buribayev. The second disc will be a coupling of Hjalmar Borgström’s Violin Concerto in G major, op.25, and Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with the acclaimed Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Olari Elts. The Dvořák/Suk disc will be released by BIS in January 2018 and the Borgström/Shostakovich disc will be released later during that year.
Eldbjørg Hemsing, a champion of Norway’s rich musical tradition, started playing violin at the age of five. She has been performing on some of the world’s most prestigious stages since her solo debut with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 11. Eldbjørg Hemsing studied at the prestigious Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo and with the renowned Professor Boris Kuschnir in Vienna. Her violin playing represents a unique blend of classic Viennese sound, which she perfected while studying with Boris Kuschnir; a contemporary sensibility absorbed through numerous projects with living composers including Tan Dun; and a deep affinity with her Scandinavian heritage that she proudly showcases in every aspect of her active musical life.
“It has always been one of BIS’s specific goals to promote young and extraordinarily gifted artists and composers, giving them their chance to appear on records. BIS’s track record is truly enviable and quite a number of today’s international stars and favourite composers have sharpened their teeth for the first time with BIS’s aid and support. This is something that occupies a big part of our efforts, and, having struck a deal with Eldbjørg Hemsing is a further proof of the realization of that goal. She truly has something special to say, and her curiosity, when it comes to repertoire choice, is something that really impresses us. We’re looking forward to this relationship with great anticipation.”
